The Palm Springs, Calif., City Council is expected to vote Thursday on a reparations settlement for former residents of a mostly Black and Latino neighborhood destroyed for commercial development in the 1960s.

The City Council is expected to vote on the settlement for residents of a neighborhood that burned more than 50 years ago. It could also consider another $21 million for community programs.

City council members of Palm Springs, California will soon vote on whether to approve a nearly $6 million reparations deal reached with Black and Latino families who were forcefully displaced from their homes in the 1960s.
